I often make Compound Butters: Last year I made one I called 'Christmas Butter': http://www.savoringthethyme.com/2010/12/no-bake-holiday-gifts-of-food-christmas-compound-butter/

I love those compound butters! So pretty. I love a savory one for melting on top of a steak...yum. Never thought of giving them as gifts.

Jennifer - I love this idea! I was just stressing about what to give our neighbors, but this sounds like an awesome idea. Thanks for sharing!

So rich and delightful! I was thinking cookie mix in ajar could be adapted pretty easily as a gluten free gift.
