For those of you that are dairy-free, how do you get calcium? I get quite a bit from certain green veggies, but I also like sardines. (made a salad with them just the other day, in fact! http://www.tastyeatsathome.com/2012/10/bela-sardines-sardine-and-wilted-mustard-greens-salad-and-a-giveaway/)
What ways do you ensure you get calcium?
Soy milk - it's added to the brand I drink. Also, I take a calcium supplement.
I don't have to be dairy free but I'm always interested in learning more about it in case any friends/family have to go dairy free.
What green veggies do you eat to get calcium?
Wendy, I eat a lot of various greens - spinach, collards, kale, and of course broccoli. I just googled and found out that okra is high in calcium too - I didn't know that! In the summer I eat okra all the time!
There are several alternatives. Eat tofu. kale, almonds, soy milk and oranges as a starting point.
I don't do soy, I don't trust it because of Monsanto and their GMO's but I do take supplements and I drink Almond milk and lots of fruits and vegetables. Oh and a green smoothy every day.
We do a great deal of leafy dark greens and calcium supplements.
Thanks for bringing this up. I definitely need to get a bit more calcium in my diet.
In light of what Cathy said, does anyone know of a good non-GMO tofu? I've often bought Wildwood Organic tofu, thinking that was a non-GMO choice, but now I'm not so sure.
Almond milk, supplements and green leafy veggies.
I think people generally think of dairy products for a source of calcium but there are many great sources as those listed here!
