About Me

In September of 2008, I experienced it first hand to be in a natural disaster. Hurricane Ike was only a category 2 hurricane, resulting in relatively few casualties, but the destruction that I witnessed in the South Houston area was catastrophic. Hundreds of families lost everything. Everyone was warned for days to get at least three days’ worth of food, water and gas. But in less than 24 hours after Ike’s landfall, tens of thousands of people were hungry, thirsty and running their cars out of fuel searching for food and water. Fallen trees took out power for most of the city. Without power, wells can’t pump water, stores can’t sell food and gas stations can’t pump gas.
